According to the measurement principle

Divided into speed water meter and volumetric water meter.
(1) Speed water meter: A water meter installed in a closed pipe,
composed of a moving element, and directly obtained the speed
of the water by the speed of the water flow.
Typical speed water meters include rotary-type water meters and
screw-type water meters. There are single-flow water meters and
multi-flow water meters in rotary-type water meters.

(2) Volumetric water meter: a water meter installed in a pipeline,
consisting of a volume of a known volume that is filled and discharged
one by one, and a fluid-driven mechanism, or a quantitative discharge meter.
